My Rhinoplasty Operation

I'm finally feeling well enough to write about my experiences from the last 3 weeks.  There isn't a lot of information on rhinoplasty operations on the internet, so I thought that sharing my experience would help others who might want or need the operation.  This post will probably be a bit wordy but I have snuck in a few photos :)

I never noticed I had a bump on my nose until I needed glasses when I started college.  It was fine for a while but I started to get pain where the glasses sat.  A trip to the doctors ended up being a waste of time as they had no idea what I was talking about and gave me painkillers that made me high.  The pain started to get worse; I had awful headaches and shooting pains up my nose.  About a year after being messed around I changed doctor and within 5 minutes he said I needed an operation!

I had to go to the hospital 3 times to convince them I needed help.  The surgeon came to see me and gave me stronger painkillers that ended up stopping me from driving.  In the last appointment I pretty much pleaded to have the op done and he reluctantly agreed.  After 6 months I was finally in the hospital with a bag of belongings and Dan keeping me company.  It was a really strange experience as after changing into my hospital gown I was led into the anaesthesia room and told to lie down.  I could hear my heart going a bit crazy on the monitor and it was pretty scary because it was all happening so fast!  When the Dr told me he was then putting me to sleep I can remember thinking 'hmm I don't feel sleepy at all and I thought this was supposed to hurt?', then I was gone.

I woke up in the recovery room and was wheeled onto the ward where Dan was waiting for me.  I had packing all over my face and could only breathe through my mouth.  I had packing up my nose and it was really painful when they removed it as it seemed to go on forever D:  I was still a bit high from the anaesthetic.  Dan told me the first thing I said to him was 'I'm Bane. Now is not the time for fear. That comes later', then I went to sleep :')

I don't know when it started but I had a reaction to the anaesthetic and started throwing up :( The first time it was blood which was awful, and the 2 times after that was just water as it's all I could get down.  When I was offered food I asked for a sandwich and a yogurt.  I was expecting fresh food but the sandwich was a packaged one and was stale.  The yogurt was all I ate until my parents snuck out and bought me a muffin at 10pm.  I was very lucky as I got my own room in a private ward so I could have visitors whenever I wanted.

I had to stay overnight and then got to go home the next morning.  I had to change the packing under my nose regularly as there was fluid draining from my nose.  I remember it being difficult to change it as my nose was a solid block of pain and touching it was painful.  I had to sleep upright for nearly 2 weeks, and kept waking up in the night because my mouth was so dry.  The skin around my eyes became really swollen and I got really awful bruises that started off black then went greeny yellow.  Worst of all my skin broke out and my whole face was covered in deep painful spots that wouldn't budge.

(Sorry the photos are so rubbish!)  I took my cast off after 10 days and was shocked at how different my nose was.  The bump is now gone and my nose isn't as wide.  Best of all I don't get any pain from it anymore!  When I first took it off my skin was still really bad and I still had my bruises but they're starting to clear up now.  I now have blue tinged under-eye shadows all the time now though and they're really hard to cover up.  I had a check-up at the hospital recently and the surgeon said it'll be another 2 months before everything starts to settle down properly.

Overall I'm so glad I had this operation.  I was really worried that my nose would be ruined and I would regret it.  I hope this hasn't been too boring to read haha!  I've tried to keep it short but if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them, and if you want to keep it private you can email me too :)

Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do

I feel that some of these photos are a good representation of my life right now.  Yesterday my car Gandalf failed his M.O.T. test and it turns out loads of his body is corroded.  There's nothing we can do to save him and I'm pretty heartbroken.  I only got to drive him for a year :(  I'm now having to look for a new car which is proving to be very difficult.  My plans to save up for a Mini have been scrapped too because all my savings will be going on my new car.

I don't want this blog post to be all doom and gloom though!  My nose cast is finally off and I'm so happy with the results.  My nose bump is gone and I haven't had any headaches since the operation :D  It'll be a little while before my nose feels better but I don't regret having the op one bit.  I have a hospital appointment tomorrow and then I'm going into the city with my mum.  Hopefully the end of this week will be better than the beginning!

Meet Hamlet

Say hi to my leopard gecko! :D I took some photos of him in his new vivarium and thought it would be fun to share them with you guys.  Leopard geckos aren't very big lizards and are pretty easy to look after, plus they come in a variety of gorgeous colours and patterns.  Hamlet is yellow, white and purple with lots of black spots.  It took me ages to convince my parents to let me have a lizard but they love him now!  One thing I love about leopard geckos is that they appear to be smiling all the time which is adorable.

I'm not going to be around much for the next couple of weeks as I had an operation last Wednesday and need to recover.  I also have a uni deadline coming up and have so much work to do D:  It's going to be hectic and I'll be glad when it's over :)

Anyway I'd love to hear about any pets you have!  If you've written a blog post about them feel free to link me to it ♥

30 Random Facts About Me

I've loved reading everyone's 'facts about me' posts so decided to do my own.  It has reminded me that we're all different people, and it's lovely getting to know more about someone other than what clothes and makeup they like!  I've decided to split my post up with some of my photographs/artwork too :)

1.  I am 4'11.  I stopped growing when I was about 12.

2. I went to a private school for 5 years and pretty much hated it.

3.  I used to be really artistic but my 6th form art teacher destroyed my confidence and passion.  After my first year he took me to one side and said 'Everything you have created this year has been crap.'

4.  However I am currently on a games art and design course!

5.  I have flown a plane a few times.  I have also been taught how to use a gun (but I'm pretty sure I'd need to be reminded how to use one now).

6.  I have a phobia of telephones.  I will rarely pick up a ringing phone and I have to write things down before ringing someone so I know what to say.

7.  I love animals.  I have 2 cats, 11 fish and a leopard gecko.  I have owned 2 other cats, 4 hamsters, 2 gerbils and a pony.

8.  I grew up with video games and my fondest memories usually involve them.  I would list games that I've loved over the years but there are too many.

9.  I have recently started watching Adventure Time and it's hilarious.

10.  I love anything to do with Rilakkuma and Beatrix Potter.

11.  I have never been very girly.  Growing up I was a huge tomboy and preferred playing with my brother's toys.

12.  I was bullied in primary school and private school.  One boy in particular sent me threats and abuse almost constantly.  I ended up complaining and got him expelled.  However my 'best friend' turned out to be one of the worst bullies.

13.  Because of this I have low self esteem and a negative view of my body.

14.  I am a huge bookworm.

15.  I have not been on many holidays but I did get to go to Italy with a friend years ago.  It was amazing.

16.  I love am obsessed with dinosaurs.

29.  I am a dog and a cat person.  I could never pick between them.

30. I am having a rhinoplasty operation this Wednesday and I'm so nervous and excited!  I have a bump on my nose that causes horrendous headaches so hopefully this will fix it.  Fingers crossed!
